The University of Dar es Salaam is the oldest and biggest public university in Tanzania. It has six campus colleges, two constituent colleges, five schools, and several institutes and centres. The university offers 65 undergraduate degree programmes and 74 graduate programmes. Doctorate programmes are offered in Law, Literature, and Science.
Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) is a result of upgrading the former Moshi University College of Co-operative and Business Studies (MUCCoBS) into a full-fledged university. The upgrading of MUCCoBS to a full university status was formally approved in 2014. The faculty of Co-operative and Community Development offers degrees of Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance, in Cooperative Management and Accounting, in Community Economic Development, and in Business Economics, Postgraduate Diploma in Community Development, Postgraduate Diploma in Cooperative Business Management and Master of Arts in Community and Cooperative Development. The Faculty of Business and Information Sciences offers Bachelor of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management, in Microfinace ad Enterprise Development, in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, in Human Resource Management, Bachelor of Science in Business Information and Communication Technology and Bachelor of Laws, Master of Arts in Business Management, and in Procurement and Supply Management.
Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology is a public University focusing in agricultural programmes as well as science and technology disciplines. The university has a provisional licence and is not yet allowed to admit students.
Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST) was set up as an university in 2013. It previously operated as Mbeya Technical College and Mbeya Institute of Science and Technology. MUST has two Colleges, one Institute and one School: Engineering and Technology, Science and Technical Education, Institute of Science and Technology, School of Humanities and Business Studies Information.
The University of Dodoma was formally established in 2007. Currently six colleges are operational: College of Education, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Informatics and Virtual Education, College of Earth Sciences, College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and the College of Health Sciences. A College of Business Studies and Law is being planned.
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) was established as an university in 2007, prior to which it was under the University of Dar es Salaam. MUHAS has five schools: Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health; and two institutes: Allied Health Sciences and Traditional Medicine. MUHAS has two campuses, Muhimbili Campus in Upanga in Dar es Salaam and in process of development Mloganzila Campus 25 km from Dar es Salaam.
Mzumbe University was established as a university in 2001. It operated formerly as Institute of Development Management IDM-Mzumbe. MU has Institute of Development Studies; three faculties: Law, Science and Technology, and Social sciences; two schools: Business and Public Administration and Management. In addition to the main university in Morogoro it has campus colleges in Mbeya and Dar es Salaam and centers in Mwanza and Tanga.
