How to use
Innovate is a powerful mapping platform allowing you to easily find the innovators and resource networks across Tanzania.
Moving Around the Map
To move around the map, first move your cursor onto the map. Next, click and hold the mouse button. Keep hold of the mouse button to move around the map.
For those using the map on your phone, use two fingers to move around the map. The map automatically locks with one finger swiping to allow you to move up and down the page.
If you click on a cluster (circle with a number in the middle), you will automatically zoom into that area. You can also zoom in and out using the scroll on your mouse or track pad, ‘pinching’ the phone screen or by clicking on the + – icons at the top left of the map.
To scroll down past the map on a computer you will need to move your mouse to the border area around the map.
Search by Category
There are two ways to search by category. The quickest way is to select from the categories at the top of the ‘MAP’ page. However, you may also use the categories when filtering your search.
Business Development Services
This category includes business consulting companies that specialise in supporting innovators in growing their organisation or business. Often, these services occur on a one-off consulting, or at different intervals.
This category includes any government ministry, department or agency, and organisations/projects initiated by the government.
The hub category includes co-working spaces for innovators. They are usually open-plan spaces or platforms through which innovators can connect and access a community.
Incubator or accelerator programs that have a specific program for innovators in terms of business or sector-specific support. These are usually for a fixed time period, and in some cases involves a cohort of innovators. The purpose of these organisations is to support innovators in starting and/or scaling a business or NGO idea.
Individuals and Mentors
This category is specifically for individuals who are deeply involved and connected in the innovation ecosystem. Sub-categories include serial entrepreneurs, role models, angel investors, and other individuals who are identified by others as playing a key role in connecting the ecosystem.
Innovators are either businesses or NGOs that are focused on bringing an innovative product, service, or platform to the market. This category also includes corporations with an innovation department.
All pins for this category fit the criteria outlined in the research survey of innovation. This means that the organisation is focused on a specific product, service, or platform that is new to the region, new to Tanzania, or new to the world.
This category brings together international donors, challenge funds, venture capital and private equity funds, investing organisations, government funds, and banks. The category includes these types of organisations only if they work to support innovators.
Networking organisations, associations, and forums form this category, which includes organisations with a purpose of providing a platform for innovators to connect and collaborate. The networks vary in size and address multiple sectors and stakeholder types. They can include farmers association who support financing local innovations, to industry associations which lobby the government for innovators in a specific sector.
This category includes universities, colleges and training institutions that include innovation as part of the curriculum offering and support the education of future innovators.
Filtering results allows you to be more specific in what you are searching for. You can filter by keyword, location, category and sub-categories; including sector, target group and stage of business supported.
Using the radius bar allows you to search for only for places that are within a certain distance of your chosen location.
Once you have selected your options you need to click the ‘FILTER’ button to load your search.
Adding To The Map
If you have an innovative business or organisation, or are contributing to the innovation ecosystem then we would love to include you on the map. You can add to the map by clicking on the ‘+ Add to Map’ button at the top right of this page. Once logged in you will be able to submit your entry. All submissions are reviewed before being posted onto the map.
